Christianity without discipleship…

Like ravens we have gathered around the carcass of cheap grace. From it we have imbibed the poison which has killed the following of Jesus among us. The doctrine of pure grace experienced an unprecedented deification. Read more
Back to School

Another semester has begun at St. Louis U and even though teaching and taking courses at the same time can prove daunting, the balance between professor and graduate student is surprisingly symbiotic. I am always amazed at how applicable my SLU courses are to my work at sem. This semester, I am taking a course in college teaching. The course provides insights into teaching skills and theory for the collegiate level and offers an opportunity to earn certification from the Center for Teaching Excellence. I am looking forward to developing my skills as an instructor and I’m sure my students won’t mind either. If I learn anything of interest, I will pass it along. Well, time to sell some blood for book money…
Educating Caliban

What’s wrong with the American college student? Compared to their European counterparts, they have been described as “natural savages” lacking a cultural and literary heritage. If you are interested in Allan Bloom, perennialism, or simply want to see me use the word “Gesamtkunstwerk”, I offer this short critique of Allan Bloom and the American college student. Steve Jobs 90 Minute Keynote in 30 Seconds

Mahalo Daily with Veronica Belmont put together this clever 30-second summary of the Steve Jobs Macworld Keynote. If you don’t have the patience or the attention span for 90 minutes, this is for you.
All Hail Steve Jobs!

OK, maybe I am too much of an Apple fanboy, but can you blame me? Today, along with an update to my iPod Touch and the Apple TV, Steve introduced the MacBook Air. The MacBook Air is wafer thin. If you were to stack the money needed to buy the deluxe version it would be thicker than the actual computer. With that said, it looks like an innovative product. I can already feel myself being magically drawn to the Apple store to take a peak.

Cooking With Marge
January 13, 2008

Last night, Elizabeth and I went to Minion’s Cafe in Maplewood to see a dinner theatre performance of Cooking With Marge. Actress Linda Spall plays Marjoram Fennel , an entertaining mixture of Julia Childs and Hyacinth Bucket from Keeping Up Appearances. Not only was it a memorable way to celebrate our anniversary, but the food was delicious as well. One of the best parts of the evening was sharing a table with a couple from St. Louis who shared stories of living in downtown St. Louis, attending local theatre, and parenting.
What’s Up With The Maji?
January 12, 2008

This past Tuesday, I preached in chapel on Matthew 2:1-12 - The Visitation of the Maji. Ever wonder why the three kings are included in the nativity scene when they didn’t arrive until months later? I take a look at this question as well as have a conversation with an inanimate object in my sermon, Wannabe King.
